He was never one to give in. It was against his nature. Upon capture the God of Mischief felt a strange liberation. The confidence of the Avengers, S.H.E.I.L.D, and even his brother Thor had been stroked into a sense of victory and security. He watched with keen eyes, bearing his muzzle while the others went about congratulating themselves on their success. His exterior portrayed calm submission, but if one were to glimpse within they’d sense a frenzied excitement. Anticipation for his glory to commence. Everything shifted according to his desire, and not one single soul suspected.
He waited with impatience for the others to finish their farewells while eyeing them with disregard. “Sentiment.” He thought to himself.
When his brother finally turned from his favored half-lives; the mortals and took one heavy step after another towards him, Loki’s hand flexed. The Tesseract was his escape. Little was known of the Tesseract itself, other then the obvious limitless power it possessed. But that was of little concern to him. It had another special and unique capability he was eager to engage.
Thor, the God of Thunder stood before him, at eye level. Eyes of steel blue bore into Loki’s green iris. Eyes that he’d grown up with and now could not bear to have to look upon. Blue illumination lit the jaw line of his brother’s face as he lifted the Tesseract. Loki’s eyes dropped from his brothers to the purest form of energy known among the nine realms. Now was the time.
He gripped firmly the other end of the Tesseracts container, his hands becoming white knuckled fists. If the others could have but seen beyond the muzzle The God of Mischief wore, they would have seen a smile of devastating impact. The moment his grip was placed, he could sense the endless channels that sprouted from the Tesseract; weaving throughout the universes. They coursed through him. Not many could see the threads, nor could they sense them. The God of Mischief however, could.
Thor’s plan was to use the mainstream of the Tesseracts energy to channel himself and his brother back to Asgard. Unfortunately for him Loki had very different plans. His aim was to remain in Midgard. His work had only beginning.
Electric blue light enveloped them, fading the world that surrounded in a brilliant haze of living energy. The energy prickled against the flesh and sent roulettes of quivering electromagnetic jolts through his body. He felt the power gathering them into the mainstream that channeled to Asgard. Loki’s eyes lifted and held his brothers as he waited for the last possible moment.
The energy locked onto their signatures and they were lifted. In that very moment, Loki summoned the illusion of him, and left the illusion to hold to the Tesseract with his brother while he linked his energy signature to another thread. Light transmitted them. All that transpired took place within the breath of a second.
The separation was instant. Within the time it took the Tesseract light to vanish, Thor was worlds away while Loki stood tall within distant mountains. The location was of little consequence for him. What mattered was that he had remained on Midgard. The power of the Tesseract still resonated within him. Due to the Tesseract’s activation on Midgard, its energy now coated the planted, caressing it, holding it. That energy signature would never leave, and it was this energy that remained that he planned on harnessing. He’d returned the Tesseract back to Asgard where it both belonged, and where he desired it to be upon his return.
For now however, his army is still gathering. The Chituari were bait: the bait to over confidence. The scent of battle now sifted through the realms, calling for war.
He was no longer the God of Mischief.
Now, he was the God of Chaos…
“What the heck is going on?” She gasped as she watched the pin dance back and forth on the radar chart. “This… it’s just not possible!” She watched the stats line up and recorded each one, scribbling away in her notebook, biting her bottom lip, apprehensive of the calculated results. The pattern started to increase. Her eyebrows lowered over her rich brown eyes, a slight wrinkle forming in the center of her forehead as she watched the gamma radiation rise to meet the atmospheric disturbances.
Her eyes widened. “You have got to be kidding me…” She hissed. She pushed herself back from the desk abruptly and wheeled her chair around, bolting out of it the moment it angled towards the door. Her notebook was clutched under her arm as she booked it through the halls towards the elevators.
She skidded a corner, her shoes squeaking across the floor, almost knocking someone over though she hardly noticed.
“Wow, hey! Jane! What’s going on, why are you in such a hurry?” Asked Agent Romanoff.
“Oh! Sorry Tasha I gotta run, I’ll explain later okay?” Jane Foster replied breathless and continued to trot sideways down the hall. “Promise!” She added as she darted around another corner.
Jane was now S.H.E.I.L.D’s Astrophysicist. Her research had blossomed since having access to near limitless technology and resources, and while she hadn’t been heavily involved in the incident with Loki and his Chituari army, she’d been very watchful of the effect and anomalies the Tesseract had on the portals to other realms. The energy pulse of the planet had not been the same since the Tesseract’s power had been put into play. Now, her most recent research showed alarming correlations in atmospheric disturbances and gamma radiation fluctuations, just as it did when the Tesseract was on earth. But the Tesseract had been taken back to Asgard.
“The Tesseract isn’t on earth anymore…” She muttered to herself, “So what on earth is going on?”
